Did you ever get bothered by a fly that just won't leave you alone?! Watch this meerkat / suricate and fly dance...
A meerkat / suricate gives a response to a persistent fly buzzing around their head! Watch Shongololo from the Wild and Free Ungulungu meerkat / suricate group of The Meerkat Magic Conservation Project in The Meerkat Magic Valley Reserve.
BEWARE OF COPY-KATS…
Grant M. Mc Ilrath is known as The Meerkat Man and is the original not a copy-kat. Since 1993 and ongoing The Meerkat Man (a name given to him by the numerous international film crews he has worked with over decades) has been researching Wild and Free meerkat / meerkats / suricate / suricates as a professionally qualified Nature Conservationist in South Africa. Grant M. Mc Ilrath - A.K.A - The Meerkat Man has over twenty years and thousands of hours observation experience with two of the three recognised meerkat / meerkats / suricate / suricates subspecies and has numerous internationally published scientific papers and articles, radio interviews and films including ones with the BBC, National Geographic and Discovery Channel which have been aired around the world and watched by millions.
Beware of imitations...there are various non-professionals in tourism claiming to be the meerkat man or researchers to lure unsuspecting tourists into their visits even when the information they provide is not from their own professional research or their own accepted internationally published work. This can be compared to a non-professional claiming to be a doctor / lawyer etc., even though they are not qualified to do so. The qualification facts can speak for themselves.
Since 1993 and ongoing as a life passion I have enjoyed observing and researching Wild and Free meerkats / suricates, to read more in depth information I suggest some of the following publications of my work with Cambridge University Britain (L.A.R.G) and the Mammal Research Institute Pretoria South Africa (M.R.I) who I spent seven years assisting in our discovery of these incredible secretive suricates!
For current publications simply enter Grant mcilrath or grant mc ilrath or grant m mc ilrath OR for the best results copy and paste the entire publication name from the list below into any large internet search engine to get many leads and publication abstracts - you can get these publications through many Universities and libraries from around the world.
These scientific publications were done jointly with The Mammal Research Institute (M.R.I) of The University of Pretoria of South Africa and The Large Animal Research Group (L.A.R.G) of The University of Cambridge in Britain that Grant M. Mc Ilrath - A.K.A - The Meerkat Man worked with for over seven years in the Kalahari from 1993 before establishing The Meerkat Magic Conservation Project and Meerkat Magic Moments around Oudtshoorn Western Cape South Africa.
Over the period from 1993 to current Grant M. Mc Ilrath- A.K.A - The Meerkat Man (press here to read more about him) has co-authored the following scientific publications with Cambridge University Britain and Pretoria University South Africa, and others:
1. Title: A genetic analysis of breeding success in the cooperative meerkat (Suricata suricatta) Published in: BEHAVIORAL ECOLOGY

I wish to allow others to experience this "behind the scenes" secretive research perspective on nature. I do not believe that only film crews, and academics in the research field should be the only poeple to enjoy observing Wild meerkats / suricates- this is why The Meerkat Magic Conservation Project is open to the public from around the world!
